Well, it is hard to believe, but I am actually living here in Nigeria again, having just arrived last August to teach Social Studies at Hillcrest.  I had wanted to return to Africa for a number of years, but had to put my plans on hold while taking care of my aging parents Vincent and Betty Bergman.  Sadly, my dad passed away in 2012 and just last March, my mother Betty went to be with the Lord.  Around that time Marjie Ketola sent me an email that HIllcrest was looking for teachers.  I applied and was accepted.  Soon I was flying via British Air to Nigeria!

Arriving in Nigeria was so familiar.  I am enjoying living on campus in the former Heckman Hall dormitory, which has been converted into roomy apartments for teachers.  We have about 250 students K-12 on campus, mostly Nigerians.  Yes, there are difficulties with the Ebola crisis, Boko Haram, and now the upcoming elections in Nigeria.  But I love the sense of community and having finally arrived "home."

Of course I am missing my family.  I have 3 sons.  Ivan and Jeni have 20-month old boy named Terril James.  Son Tim married Karis and they have a baby boy Elliot Steven.  Son Tobie is not married yet.

I hope to connect with a lot of Hillcrest/SIM folks at the Reunion this summer.  See you then!  Sylvia

I attended Hillcrest as an eight and nine year old girl in 1951-53. Wondering if anyone from that era will be at the reunion. The names I remember are Hazel and Melody and Mr. and Mrs. Wine, the headmasters.
